General SAP BI Project Tasks

Hello,

These question concern projects requiring dashboards and reports to be designed for data originating out of the ECC system such such as Sales and Distribution (SD).

1. Will the data have to be moved to BW first or it can be reported directly from the ECC system.
2. Are there cases where we design dashboards / reports on data in ECC.

I know these are basic questions however I am a newbie.
